Introduction : The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is a cut-down variant of the Redmi 5. The device although looks similar but lacks firepower. On the front, the smartphone sports a 5-inch HD IPS display which does its job decently. However, the phone suffers from legibility issues when placed under bright sunlight. It will be available for purchase starting December 7 from the online retailer, Mi.com, Mi Homes and other partner offline channels.
Price : The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is priced at Rs 5,999 for the 2GB RAM/16GB storage variant, but Xiaomi is offering a discount of Rs 1,000 on the smartphone for their first 5 Million customers. This effectively brings down the price of the 2GB RAM variant of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A from Rs 5,999 to Rs 4,999. The 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant of the Redmi 5A is priced at Rs 6,999.
Performance and Battery : Under the hood, the smartphone runs a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset which along with 2GB of RAM which ensures smooth sailing even while working on multiple apps simultaneously or playing games. The smartphone is backed by a 3000mAh battery and Xiaomi claims it can last up to 8 days on standby and up to 7 hours of video playback.
Storage and Camera : The internal storage in this device has a capacity of 16GB/32GB that can be expanded up to a massive 128GB by inserting a microSD card. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing unit. While the rear camera along with an LED flash can be used for low-light conditions, the front-facing shooter is ideal for video calls and selfies. The rear camera is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps and 720p videos at 30fps.
Battery and Connectivity : The Xiaomi Redmi 5A extracts all its required fuel from a massive 3,000mAh Li-ion battery for a decent period of battery backup. The smartphone runs on MIUI9 on top of Android 7.1 Nougat. For connectivity, the Redmi 5A supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and 4G LTE.
